The informeTAB of UNIR, International University of La Rioja, arises from the need to know in depth the use that Spaniards make of tablets in our homes and their different applications is quantitative in nature and includes the Nepal Mobile Database identification of patterns of use according to the type of user profile.
Tablets, whose most common purchase in homes has been for the convenience of use and, specifically, in women as a gift, are used more frequently at night in bed (64%) and to communicate, either by mail (95%) or through different social networks (93%). These are some of the conclusions that have been drawn from the #informeTAB of UNIR, International University of La Rioja presented during the celebration of the first edition of the Tab Innovation Awards.
Research Approaches: When, Where, and What You Use Your Tablet For
The report has identified that the most common times of use are at night and in bed with a percentage of 64%. It is followed by the afternoons on the couch (44%) and in the morning at work (30%) and only the youngest use it a lot in the bathroom (42%). Young people between 18 and 24 years old are the ones who use the tablet the most in transport in the morning. Communicating either by mail (95%) or by social networks (93%) is the main use.
It is followed by games (81%) and information (online press reading 80%, meteorological information 76% and travel information 71%).
Use of tablets
While men make more concentrated use of tablets to communicate through their social networks after work and at home, women use them interchangeably and throughout the day.
In 3 out of 10 households, children use tablets, mainly between the ages of 7 and 12. This represents 77% of households with children (source INE).
Social networks, games, utilities and press the most downloaded applications and in that order
Despite being the second most consumed content on the tablet with 80%, only 58% download the applications related to the press. Most prefer to consume this type of content through the browser.

The most downloaded according to the study are: social networks (66%), games (59%) and utilities (58%), although they are used very little once downloaded.
Likewise, 33% of users download applications from television programs and those who do download entertainment programs to have additional information.
For e-commerce: Better a good responsive website than an app
56% of tablet users acknowledge using it to buy online. Most of the products that are purchased with the tablet are electronics, travel and clothing. The tabCommerce has a rate that is almost double that of the general Internet population (36%). Of course, 77% say that at the moment they prefer to do it through the Brother Cell Phone List browser rather than through an e-commerce app. The reason: with the apps they think that they will not find the total catalog of the brand’s products.
The look of tablets: Less than half personalize their tablet, men are the ones who do it the most
Only 45% of users have personalized, above all, with impersonal motifs, patterns or abstract designs (59%) the background of their desktop. The majority (56%) are men.
